Youth Making A Difference

Youth Making A Difference

PEP Graduation 2007

We provide various educational opportunities for the adolescents serviced in Camden New Jersey.  Workshops are conducted at schools and communality centers with the hope of reducing teenage pregnancy and STD, HIV/AIDS, increasing awareness on the affects of drugs and alcohol regarding decision making and safe sex. These are but a few educational and social tools we provide our youth with to empower them and allow them to acknowledge their skills, attitudes, knowledge and values.

We also encourage the parents to attend our workshops, especially to attend the graduation ceremonies of our peer educators.  We service adolescents from ages 13-20 from various socio-economical, gender and sexual orientations.  We encourage this diversity to encourage our youth to look past one’s immediate differences and aspire for tolerance, understanding and becoming future advocates for themselves and others who have not discovered their voice.

The workshops at the schools focus on attitudes, knowledge, values, decision making, stereotypes, sexual orientations, gender scripting, building healthy relationships, developing a safe atmosphere, and effectively communicating to partners and self regarding personal boundaries, wants and needs.  Currently we are servicing adolescents at Camden H.S., however, we are also open to providing fun and educational workshops at your school.

The facilitators are Health Educational Specialist with extensive training on sexual health issues: STD, HIV/AIDS, gender scripting, comprehensive sexuality and abstinence, drugs and alcohol,  decision-making and communication skills, just to name a few.

The facilitators, of the various workshops, are William Gray and Jonathan Ruberte.  They can be reached at the following email addresses to answer any questions about sexual health issues, orientation, behaviors or identities.  William Gray gray_w@camden-ahec.org
, and Jonathan Ruberte ruberte_j@camden-ahec.org.  They are more than willing to assist both teens and parents to helpful information that will help reduce some anxieties regarding sexuality.
